Invitational Method

This is one of the easiest methods to use.  It's easy to invite a friend to the park if their day off from school coincides with your group's park day.  Invite a friend to a homeschool support group meeting.  Invite your friend to a Moms' Night Out.  Or better yet, just have a coffee break at the nearest coffee shop and talk one on one, answering their question.

If there is a special speaker in your town?  Then invite your friends who have been asking about homeschooling.

One set of Moms are getting together to have a Curriculum Review.  Several get together to show what books and materials they have used.  Invite your prospective homeschooler to one of those meetings.  She will note that most of the Moms who are making these decisions don't have teaching degrees, but they understand and know what their children need.

If your support group has a heart for Homeschool, having a Library Night once a month is a great way to introduce homeschooling to new people.  It takes 2 couples about thirty (30) hours a year total to have one of these.

Here are the Steps to a Library Night for Homeschool 101:

  1. Find 2 couples who will work together and cover the other when life happens.

  2. Locate a library with an opening in their meeting room.

  3. Reserve the room

  4. Set up flyers at the library

  5. Put a quick announcement in the homeschool newsletter and yahoogroup

  6. Send that same announcement to your local paper for their community calendar

  7. Collect information about homeschooling, some free magazines, a list of resources and support groups in the area, for the meeting.

  8. Have one or the other couple show up, give a short (10 minute) presentation on homeschooling and then answer questions.
